National Chess Championship concludes successfully

Pasindu Liyanage of D. S. Senanayake College, Senuja Alwela of Bandarawela Central College, Chanindi Attanayake of Devi Balika Vidyalaya and Minethma Wickramasinghe of Sujatha Vidyalaya took major honours in the Sri Lanka National Chess Championship Cycle Major Division concluded recently.

Pasindu scored six points out of seven rounds with an unbeaten record to win the Western 1 Open Division while Insara Nanayakkara and Isara Dahanayaka tied for the second spot.

Meanwhile, Chanindi was crowned as the winner of the Western 2 women’s event. The second place of this event was won by Tharuli Vihansa.

Senuja managed to win the Championship and the Gold Medal in the North-Western/Uva and Ratnapura Open event by winning six points out of seven games.

Meanwhile, Minethma was able to secure the Championship of the Southern women’s event with 6.5 points.

The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL) organised this Online Rapid Chess Championship Cycle for the first time in Sri Lanka.
