Mohamed Rikaz to coach in Qatar

One of the top cricketers and coach from Kandy Haladeen Mohamed Rikaz, who was the coach of Kingswood College, left for Doha Qatar Stallions Cricket Academy as junior coach on Monday he is sure to give his best with his vast experience as he did in Kandy .

He learnt his cricket at St.Anthony’s College, and is one of the finest cricketers to come out of that school. As a coach he did his best to help Kingswood cricket regain its past glory. He has years of experience in the coaching field and has been coaching since 2019. He has played for Kandy District and Central Province teams, then at club level for Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club and for Kandy Cricket Club.

He played for the Antonain first eleven cricket team for five years and his last year was 2004, for his good work he was awarded school colours. During his under17 days did a good job with the bat and was awarded the prize for his fine batting performance. At senior level in 2004 season he scored 954 runs. His first year for the Antonain senior side was in 2000/01 under the captaincy of Samson Burke, then 2001/02 under Prasad Ranawake they had a good side with players like Nuwan Ratnayake vice captain, Nipuna Ratnayake, Tyronne Silva, Hilari Perera, H.Harsha, Gayan Ekanayake,. Ashan Ariyaratne, Mohamed Rizlan,Neville Edirisooriya, Sajith Pinnaduwa, Amal Perera, Dabushka Bandaranayake, Imran Bisthamin and,2002/03 under Nipuna Ratnayake and in 2003/04 under Mohamed Rizlan who is the present vice captain of the Qatar national side.

In his coaching he did a good job and has experience of thirteen years. He started his coaching with Madena Central College Madawela and one of this products went up to the national level,That is Siras Sahib, now he is with BRC and he toured South Africa with the national team in 2019 and also played for the Sri Lanka “A” side and even at present he is in the “A:”squad.

Then Rikaz was one time head coach of Old Zahirians Cricket Club and also coached Kandy Youth Cricket Club and was the head coach of Kingswood College where he did his best. Cricket is indeed a team game as 11 players on the field need to come together as a unit to emerge victorious.
