Indian footballers face do or die battle against Maldives

Hosts Maldives will face a cliff hanger encounter today in a bid to secure a place in next Saturdays grand finale at the National Stadium in Male.

The current table leaders with 6 points obtained from two wins (against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) and a loss to Nepal, Maldives are tipped to be the dark horse of the tournament. The home team will have to pass another tough hurdle in today’s game against regional giants India which will likely be a nail biter.

The Indian team (ranked 107) remain as the only undefeated team in the competition so far, winning one and forcing two matches to a draw. In team composition they have a well-balanced and formidable side. Moreover, the Indians have the edge over their rivals.

Since it is a night fixture played under lights and home conditions, Maldives too are determined maintain their winning streak. They cannot be underrated and the team which executes a proper plan will seal the game while reserving a berth in the grand finale.

Meanwhile, in the first match at 4.00 p.m. Nepal will power their way into the grounds with all guns blazing in their bid to notch up another win against Bangladesh, which is a must win for them. They have collected 6 points so far and a win here will enable them to be the other team to qualify for the final. Bangladesh have already accumulated 4 points in their three outing so far, with a win, loss and draw respectively. Both matches will be keenly contested.
