Vihanga Thusaraka karateka par excellence

Sixteen year old Karate Black Belt holder Vithana Appuhamilage Vihanga Thusaraka brought honour and fame tor his Alma Mater Vekada Maha Vidyalaya Dankotuwa. He was born on 3rd May 2014 and he was initially admitted to his village school Sangabodhi Vidyalaya, Katukenda, Dankotuwa in 2010 and his first Principal was Dharmapriya Pathirana and he was there up to Grade Five and he participated in the Inter House Athletic Meet and he could not come up to expectations.

When he was five years old he was encouraged by his father Asela Sumith Lasantha who is the Karate Coach and Master in Charge of Karate at Wekada Vidyalaya to take upto karate and with the blessings of his mother Shyamali Ranasinghe and at the age of six he was the School Karate Champion in 2015 and in the same year he took part in the All Island Inter Schools Karate Federation Tournament held at Sugathadasa Stadium and in his first attempt he got a Bronze for Kata and in the following year at the Puttalam District Meet he won Gold Medals for Kata and Kumite At the Provincial tournament he won a Gold and at the National Schools Meet he won a Silver for Kata.

When he was in Grade Eight he temporarily stopped sports and in 2018 he won Golds for Kata and Kumite at the Puttalam District meet and at the North Western Provincial Meet he won a Gold for Kata and Silver for Kumite and at the All Island Schools Meet he grabbed a Silver Medal and in the following year too he won Golds for Kata and Kumite in the District and Provincial Meets This year due to Ordinary level Examination he gave up sports temporarily and his Principal. Vithana and Prefect of Games Saman Bandara are always supportive of him at school.
