Uthpala Sajini Ratnayake an excellent netball player

Netball Player, School games Captain in 2018, 19 and 20, member of the Asian Youth Netball Championship team in 2019 in Japan Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Uthpala Sajini Ratnayake brought honour and glory to her Alma Mater Holy Family Convent Kurunegala and her motherland.

Uthpala was born on 14th May 2002 and she entered Sir John Kotealawala Vidyalaya Dodangaslanda in 2008 and she was there from Grade One to Seven and she did not take much interest in sports activities and in 2015 she was drafted to Holy Family Convent Kurunegala. Her parents Nishantha Ratnayake and Dishanthi Chamini insisted their daughter to do at least one sport and she took up to Netball in 2014 and came under the teacher in Charge of Netball Mrs. Amalka Wannithilake and coach Ananda Wanninithilake With the strenuous training she was selected to the under 13 team and their school swept the board in Divisional, Zonal, District and Provincial Tournament Participating in the MILO Tournament they were the champions and at the Schools Nationals they were victorious and the following year she was appointed as the Captain of the under 14 team.

In 2016 representing the under 17 team in the MILO Tournament they were the champions and the All Island Schools Runners Up In the following year too they were the under 17 champions.of the MILO Tournament and runners up in the National Schools and in the same year their school authorities organized an under 16 tour and their team took wing to Malaysia and participated in the Pesta Dalaraj INC Tournament and they were the runners up and in 2018 for the Sri Lanka National Development Squad four teams participated and they came third and in the same year after going through the proper channels in the lower level tournaments they were the under 17 Milo and National Schools Runners Up and in 2019 too they obtained the same result in the Milo and National Schools Netball Tournaments.

With these performances under her belt Uthpala was an unanimous choice for the Eleventh Youth Netball under 21 Championship held in Japan she was 18 years old and Sri Lanka girls came third and it was a very fine exposure for Uthpala and in the Junior Nationals they were the under 23 Champions.

In 2019 too their school became runners up in Milo and the National Schools Tournament and in the same year she toured Malaysia for the PESTA Tournament and they lost and after returning to the Island their school participated in the Junior National Championship and clinched the trophy and Uthpala was adjudged the Best Shooter of the tournament In the same year participating in the Dialog Tournament they emerged second runner up. She received National Schools Netball Colours in 2015 and in 2018, 2019 and 2020 she captained her school teams in various age groups from time to time.
