Athlete, Sabaragamuwa University Captain, Sri Lanka under 19 and Sri Lanka Universities Volleyball player Harambage Ridmi Sakunthala Fernando has brought honour and glory to her Alma Mater Dhammissara National School Nattandiya Sabaragamuwa University and her motherland.

Ridmi was admitted to the Grade One of Dhrmarama Maha Vidyalaya Mahawewa in 2002 and she was there for two years and from there she joined Sri Gunarathana Maha Vidyalaya and she came under Mrs. Pushpika and she was in that school from Grade Three to Eight. When she was in Grade 7 and 8 she did High Jump, Long Jump and 100 metres and both these years she swept the board in all three events and became the under 12 champion. In 2008 she won in the Divisional, Zonal meets and came third in Provincial Meet from there she was drafted to Dhammissara National School in 2009 and it was Dhammissara’s gain and Siri Gunarathana Vidyalayas loss. In 2009 Sports Meet she won the Divisional, Zonal, District and she did not participate in the All Island Schools Meet due to personal reasons.
Noticing her talents in volleyball her parents Ravindra Fernandoa and Inoka Sanjewani encouraged their daughter Ridmi to take up to volleyball and she immediately came under the Prefect of Games Keerthi Jayasekera and the coach Samansiri Seneviratne. Same year she was selected to the under 14 Volleyball team and they won the Divisional, Zonal, District and came third in the Provincial tournament and third in DSI Tournament and in 2010 they came second in the DSI and All Island Inter School tournament and they were the runners up. With all these performances under her belt in 2012 she was selected for the Youth Volleyball Championship held in China and they came twelfth and she received colours and that tour was a fine exposure for Ridmi.
After returning to the island she was appointed as the Girls Sports Captain of the School and her House Team became Volleyball Champions and she was adjudged the Best Volleyball Player, and Athlete. In the mean time she was selected to the tour of Asian under 19 Volleyball Championship held in Taipei, China and Sri Lankan girls came up to the Best Eight for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka Girls Volleyball. Same year in 2014 she toured Thailand for the Asian Girls Volleyball Championship and they finished Fifth out of eight countries.
She took part in the Wayamba National Festival and their team secured the second place and in 2017/18 festival they were the champions and she carried away the Best Player award. Then representing the Koswadiya Wijaya Club they were the Dialog Champions in 2017/18. With all these performances and experience she was a unanimous choice for the Asian under 23 Volleyball Championship held in Thailand.
In 2016/17/18 and 19 they were the Munchee Super League Champions. Representing the Sabaragamuwa University in the Inter University Volleyball Championship they were the champions in 2018 and 19 and they were the SLUG Champions in 2020.
She won the SLUSA Colours in 2020 and she was the Captain of the Sabaragamuwa University Team in 2020/21. Presently she is following a Training Course at Volleyball Headquarters Colombo.
