Bangladesh Skipper Mominul Haque believes that they need to build up a strong fast bowling attack in their attempt to counter the Sri Lankans during the Test series, which begins in Kandy later this month.
The 21-member Bangladesh Cricket Team arrived in Colombo last evening and will play two Test matches against Sri Lanka, which is also part of the ICC World Test Championship, at the Pallekele Stadium.
In fact, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCG) have decided to send additional bowlers for this tour and have also included three uncapped fast bowlers in their squad as Sri Lanka will not be providing net bowlers for the practice sessions.
Bangladesh paid a heavy price during their recent home series against the West Indies after including just one fast bowler in each of the two Tests and they do not want to have a repeat show in the series against Sri Lanka.
“If the wicket permits I can play two, three or four pace bowlers. We are not making any short term plan. I feel if we want to do well in the future, we need to have 6-7 fast bowlers in our line-up,” Mominul told reporters shortly before his departure to Sri Lanka.
The Bangladesh Captain is also determined to have a positive result in this series after they have had some bitter experience during the last 5-6 Test matches.
“We need to have a result because we have failed in the last 5-6 Test matches. Unless you are winning you cannot experiment and you have to understand when to experiment. There is no point experimenting in Sri Lanka,” he added.
“There will be sporting wickets in Sri Lanka and if you see our batting unit has failed in the last couple of series. So they must come and perform if we want to have success in Sri Lanka.”
Mominul also said that the absence of two key players, Shakib al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman will not have a great impact in their overall performances.
“I don’t think their absence will have any impact. It’s just that we are not performing as a team and so we failed to achieve the desired results,” he added.
