Colombo FC start Super League campaign in style

Colombo FC striker Chamod Dilshan in action after scoring two goals for his team to notch up 4-0 win over New Young SC

Striker Chamod Dilshan booted two spectacular goals as Colombo FC defeated New Youngs FC 4-0 in the inaugural Super League Football Tournament opening match played at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday.

After scoring a goal early in the first half, the Colombo lads dominated their rivals in all departments to score three more goals in the second half.

In the 11th minute of the first half, a handball decision was turned down by referee Lakmal Weerakkody, and television replays indicated that it was a poor decision. Two minutes later, Dilshan broke the shackles for the winners making a well measured header off a free-kick 25 metres out from the right flank by Zarwan Johar and the scoreboard read 1-0 in favour of the winners at the breather.

In the 51st minute of the match, New Youngs FC goal-keeper Dhanushka Rajapaksa was penalised for dangerous play in their box area, resulting in a penalty to their rivals.

Mid-fielder Zarwan made no mistake with the kick to make the score 2-0. The third goal came in the 80th minute off the boot of Skipper Momas Yapo while Dilshan sealed the game with another solo effort in the 86th minute.
