Sri Lankan war veteran D. S. R. Dharmasena stole the limelight at the 14th Sri Lanka Open Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, worked off at the SLTA Courts in Green Path. Dharmasena had the satisfaction of claiming a double at this tournament as he clinched the Men’s Singles title as well as the Men’s Double title.
This year’s tournament of course, was conducted with the participation of only local competitors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dharmasena made the maximum from this tournament as he defeated R. A. L. S.
Ranaweera 6-1, 7-6 in a thrilling Men’s Singles final encounter. Thereafter, he combined with Ranaweera and went on to beat the combination of Gamini Dissanayake and K. G. M. Pradeep Kumara 6-4, 6-1 in the Men’s
Doubles final.

Men’s Singles quarter-finals: R. A. L. S. Ranaweera beat Pradeep Kumara 6-3, 6-4. D. S. R. Dharmasena beat W. A. S. P. Weerasinghe 6-0, 6-0. H. M. L. Senarathne beat K. D. M. Dharmarathne 6-3, 6-3. Gamini Dissanayake beat W. P. J. Wijesiri 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
Semi-finals: R. A. L. S. Ranaweera beat Gamini Dissanayake 6-2, 6-2. D. S. R. Dharmasena beat H. M. L. Senarathne 6-2, 6-2.
Final: D. S. R. Dharmasena beat R. A. L. S. Ranaweera 6-1, 7-6.
Men’s Doubles semi-finals: R. A. L. S. Ranaweera and D. S. R. Dharmasena beat H. M. L. Senarathne and W. P. G. Wijesiri 6-2, 6-0. Gamini Dissanayake and K. G. M. Pradeep Kumara beat K. D. M. Dharmarathne and Geeth Kankanamage 6-3, 6-2.
(Final): R. A. L. S. Ranaweera and D. S. R. Dharmasena beat Gamini Dissanayake and K. G. M. Pradeep Kumara 6-4, 6-1.
