Sri Lanka collapse to 54/3 at lunch

Sri Lanka struggled to reach 54 for three wickets at lunch on the opening day of the first Test against the West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua yesterday.

The West Indies certainly justified their decision to bowl first after winning the toss as they were able to claim three wickets during a productive opening session.

Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite led by example on the field by affecting a stunning run out to remove Oshada Fernando.

It was some terrible running from the visitors as Lahiru Thirimanne pushed one in front of cover and called for a quick single.

Fernando did respond immediately but Brathwaite was quick on the ball as he picked it up and broke the stumps at the striker's end with an underarm throw.

Then, just minutes before lunch, former captain Jason Holder struck to remove the dangerous Dinesh Chandimal for a painstaking four runs after the batsman had faced 25 deliveries.

Earlier, Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne was snapped up by Rahkeem Cornwall in the 11th over. (Agencies)
