Skipper Wellalage lifts St. Joseph’s after batting collapse vs. Royal

Skipper Dunith Wellalage hit a brisk knock of 71 in 76 balls with five fours and five sixes as St. Joseph’s College compiled 210 in their first innings on the opening day of their Inter-Schools Under-19 traditional match against Royal College which began at Darley Road yesterday.

St. Joseph’s were struggling at 74 for five wickets at one stage, but Wellalage and Yesith Rupasinghe (28) added a fighting 77-run stand for the sixth wicket stand to rebuild the innings.

Royal paceman Sonal Amarasekara and leg-spinner Gishan Balasooriya took three wickets apiece.
