Skipper Nipunaka shines as St. Peter’s amass 277

Skipper Nipunaka Fonseka hit a superb 76 with seven fours and a six, while Shenal Boteju scored 51 with six fours as St. Peter’s College made 277 for nine declared in their first innings on the opening day of their Inter-Schools Under-19 traditional cricket encounter against Trinity College played at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

Left-hander Fonseka added 97 runs for the fifth wicket along with Wanuja Kumara who made a valuable 45 with four fours.

Trinity paceman Manula Kularatna was the most successful bowler as he finished with five for 60 while Skipper Abhishek Anandakumar provided good support with three for 81.

At close, the Trinitians were 85 for two wickets in their first innings.

Meanwhile, Ananda College made 217 in their first innings on the opening day of their traditional fixture against S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia which commenced at Ananda Mawatha yesterday. The Thomians were 25 for one wicket at close.
