Raveen de Silva , Grade 13 student of Nalanda Vidyalaya,Colombo is the Skipper of the School Cricket team this season. He started playing cricket under the coaching of Pubudu Aluwihare in the year 2016 when he was studying in Grade 7 and he was selected to the Under 13 school cricket team and he went on to score more than 200 runs and took 25 wickets as a right arm off-spinner in the Division one Under 13 Cricket tournament in the Colombo District.
As a second year player he showed improvement by scoring over 250 runs and claiming over30 wickets.In the Under 15 cricket tournament he scored over 400 runs and bagged over 30 wickets When playing in the Under 15 side for the second year he bagged 47 wickets.
He was also selected to play in the ‘Big Match’ against Ananda College and scored 35 Runs and claimed two wickets . In the Under 17 age group he scored a century against S de S Jayasinghe Vidyalaya and scored five half centuries and in the second year again in the Under 17 Age Group he led his side up to the Quarter Final Level. He has played for the first XI Team as an Under 15 player and Under 17 player.
As an Under 19 player in 2020 he scored 711 runs including an unbeaten knock of 113 runs against Maliyadeva College and 100 not out in the ‘Big Match’against Ananda College. His First XI Coach is Prasanna Dissanayake, former Dharmaraja College Cricket Captain.
Among the opportunities he got to represent the country are in 2018 as a debutant he represented Sri Lanka Schools against Bangladesh Schools and then he played for the Under 19 team against the visiting Australian side and Pakistan team in the One Day series.
Again in 2019 he toured Bangladesh for the Test match which ended in a draw and his Under 19 Coach was Hashan Tillakaratne, former Sri Lanka Test Cricket Captain.
In the local tournaments he has captained the Under 15 District and Provincial School teams in 2017 and in 2020 he played in three matches for the Tamil Union in the Premier League and he claimed three wickets for 30 runs against Bloomfield and two wickets for 30 runs against SSC. His ambition is to represent Sri Lanka at the Under 19 World Cup in the year 2022.
