Masters Basketball Tourney from March 26

The Masters Basketball Championship 2021 conducted by the Masters Basketball Sri Lanka (MBSL) and sponsored by Gaja Holdings will be worked off from March 26 to 28 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.

“We are inspired by sports minister’s idea and the vision of bringing sports back to the system and so we decided to host an event of this nature as most of our senior athletes were looking for an event to participate and get going with their sporting activities,” Gayath Jayasinghe, President of the MBSL told the Daily News.

The Men’s Tournament comprise of Over-35, Over-40, Over-45 and Over-50 while the Women’s Tournament will be conducted in Over-35 and Over-40 age groups. “This will be the first official basketball tournament to be conducted in almost two years and the idea behind this is to provide an opportunity for the yesteryear players to come and enjoy the game.” Clifford Surendren, Treasure of the MBSL said.

All matches will be played with a 10-2-10 duration due to health restrictions from March 26 and will be concluded on March 28. The winners and the runners-up will be awarded trophies.
