Leg-spinner Wanuja Kumara bowled a superb spell with five for 40 to help St. Peter’s College restrict their opponents St. Sebastian’s College for 160 for nine in their first innings on the opening day of their Inter-Schools Under-19 cricket encounter, which commenced at Bambalapitiya yesterday.
At close, St. Peter’s were 67 for two wickets in their first innings.
The Peterites were unable to make a good start as opener Shenal Boteju was run out for naught, while number three batsman Shanshay Gunathilleka was also back in the pavilion cheaply.
However, Shanuka Galagoda (35) and Skipper Nipunaka Fonseka (29) put on an unbroken 67-run stand for the third wicket to rebuild their innings.
Earlier, Avishka Fernando hit a top score of 66 for the Sebastianites after they had collapsed to 73 for four wickets at lunch.
Meanwhile, opener Sahil Dias hit a superb 142 with 15 fours as Wesley College batted the entire first day to score 317 in their first innings on the opening day of their Under-19 Inter-Schools cricket encounter against S. Thomas’ College which began at Mount Lavinia yesterday.
