Sri Lanka took honours during the opening session of the second and decisive Test against the West Indies, which began at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua yesterday.
Sri Lanka struck two vital blows during the first two hours of play through paceman Suranga Lakmal before the West Indies recovered to reach 86 for two at the lunch interval. Lakmal looked quite impressive during his hostile opening spell and troubled both openers Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell with some lively deliveries.
In the seventh over of the innings, Lakmal had Campbell edging a delivery to wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella after the batsman had laboured for 24 balls for his five runs.
Three overs later, Lakmal produced another tremendous delivery to mesmerise Nkrumah Bonner who played on to his stumps for a six-ball duck.
However, Skipper Brathwaite and Kyle Mayers steadied the West Indies innings with an unbroken third wicket stand of 71 runs.
