Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne said that Sri Lanka’s batting performance in the second innings was impressive after the opening Test match against the West Indies ended in a draw at Antigua on Thursday.
“When we got out for 169 in the first innings, we knew we were far behind the game. But we did well in the second innings,” he emphasised.
“Oshada Fernando scored a gem of an innings and debutant Pathum Nissanka batted well. It wasn’t easy facing bowlers like Roach, Holder and Gabriel.”
“However he knew what he’s capable of and he had a good game plan that he executed very well and it paid off,” Karunaratne stressed.
“He’s done a great job the last three years in the domestic season so that’s why he was called and he took this opportunity with both hands.”
“Niroshan Dickwella got some runs on his name but unfortunately he missed his well -deserved century once again.”
“The second game is important and we need to give our best before we move on to the Bangladesh series.” added Karunaratne.
