The Kandy District Cricket Association (KDCA) is a governing body for cricket in Kandy,responsible for disciplinary actions, controlling and organizing tournaments, and helping needy schools and club. On Monday the management committee of Kandy District Cricket Association keeping with the policy of Sri Lanka Cricket to assist and develop cricket, identified schools and clubs in need of infrastructure facilities.
KDCA president Roland Perera ,Secretary Janaka Pathirana, Coach Malcolm Perera along with some of the KDCA officials presented confirmation letters for concrete side nets to Suwarnajothi M.V., Deerananda M.V. , Mahaweli M.V., Peradeniya Central and D.B. Wijetunga M.V. and also for matting wickets for Police S.C., Prisons S.C., Wickremabahu M.V. , D.B. Wijetunga M.V. Peradeniya Central, Hewaheta Central and Kandy District CA.
Kandy District Cricket Association is in the right direction of developing the game. A one day knockout tournament is on the cards and they have also planned for a well structured T-20 tournament for the major cricket playing schools. KDCA also had a series of workshops for umpires and, scorers.
Cricket was once the most popular sport in Kandy before it was overtaken by rugby. Cricket is the fastest growing sport in Kandy at school and club level,What this sport lacks badly is a proper playing field. Schools are going out of Kandy to play matches.
There are a few grounds in Kandy owned by Trinity, St. Anthony’s Dharmaraja, and Kingswood College’Other schools like Wariyapola Sri Sumangala have no grounds at all, Sri Rahula, Vidyartha, St Sylvester’s College have mini grounds only for practices when they play matches in Kandy they have to pocket out a big amount as ground fees, Some schools go out of Kandy and play matches.
