Dharmaraja-Nalanda clash from today

The annual Inter-Schools Under-19 cricket encounter between Dharmaraja College and Nalanda College for the Bandula Warnapura Challenge Trophy will be played today and tomorrow at the Lake View Grounds in Kandy.

The Bandula Warnapura Challenge Trophy was introduced in 2001 although these two leading Buddhist schools have been playing cricket since 1931.

Warnapura was a former captain of Nalanda College and was Sri Lanka’s first Test Captain when he led the country in the inaugural Test match against England in 1982.

This will be the 19th encounter for the Warnapura Trophy and the match was not played last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The last match of the series played in February, 2019 at Lake View, ended in a draw but Nalanda with a first innings lead of 12 runs won the trophy.
