Binara Hansana Umayanga does his school proud

Volleyball player , , athlete, elle player and games captain of the school Binara Hansana Umayanga has brought honour and fame to his Alma Mater Dhammissara National School Nattandiya.

Binara was admitted to this school in 2008 when R. K. W. Jayasekera was the Principal and his first class teacher was Mrs. Premalatha. He commenced participating in the Inter House Athletic Meets from Grade Four and he did 50 and 100 metres and High Jump and participated in the Divisional Athletic Meet and there too he won places. But he did not proceed as he took up to volleyball seriously and his parents M. Jayalath and Subashini Kanchana too encouraged him. He commenced playing for the Inter House Volleyball team in the under 12 age group and in 2015 his House Team was the Runners Up and in the Divisional, Zonal and District Tournaments they won easily.. He was the under 12 Athletic Champion in 2013. In the meantime he attended Volleyball practices under their PTI and Coach Keerthi Jayasekera and at the 2016 Divisional, Zonal and District Volleyball Tournaments they won and lost at the Provincial Meet.

In 2017 they won all Lower Tournaments and in the Inter Schools Tournament they came up to the Best Eight. Then in the same year playing in the DSI Tournament they came up to Semi Finals and lost to St. Joseph Vaz College and in 2018 they won the Provincial Tournament and they got the third place in the All Island Inter Schools Tournament. With his performance in the past Binara was selected for the tour of Malaysia and eight teams participated in the Tournament on a league basis and they were the champions and in 2019 they won the Provincial Tournament and in the DSI Tournament they were the All Island Runners Up and in the All Island Schools Meet they won the fourth place.

In 2020 at the President's Dialog Championship he played for the Nattandiya United Club and they ended up in second place and in the same year he was awarded School Volleyball Colours.

Also he captained the School team in 2019/20 and this year too he will be captaining the team and he is the Games Captain of the school.
