Basketball community mourns death of Ranil

Ranil Fernando

Sri Lanka’s basketball community is in shock following the sudden death of international basketball referee Ranil Suranga Fernando. He was only 37.

A product of St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala, Ranil took to refereeing at a young age and made tremendous progress becoming one of the leading referees in the country.

He handled high pressure games smoothly and was loved by the basketball community. He was set to officiate in the Masters Tournament at the Sugathadasa Stadium this weekend but passed away on Wednesday night.

His remains lie at the Western Funeral Home, 109, Negombo – Colombo Main Road, Negombo and will be taken for burial at Negombo General Cemetery, today at 3.00 p.m.
