Promising tennis player Arushi Thomas won the Girls’ Under-14 Singles title at the SSC Open Tournament, which continued at the SSC Courts in Maitland Place yesterday.
The schoolgirl from Newstead Girls’ College, Negombo, completed a successful tournament by defeating Dulkini Ranasinghe 6-2, 6-2 in the final encounter.

(Girls’ Under-14 Singles final): Arushi Thomas beat Dulkini Ranasinghe 6-2, 6-2.
(Boys’ Under-14 quarter-finals): Methwan Wijemanne beat Janava De Saram 6-3, 6-4. Tharuk Marasinghe beat Senuk Herath 6-2, 2-6, 10-6. Lisal Goonethilleke beat Aweesh Ganegoda 6-3, 6-3. Sandas Usgodaarachchi beat Danushka Dias 6-2, 6-3.
