Royal College Skipper Ahan Wickramasinghe scored a record breaking double century on the opening day of the Inter-Schools Under-19 cricket encounter against Trinity College, which began at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Wickramasinghe hammered an unbeaten 210 as the home side batted the entire first day to reach a massive first innings total of 403 for two wickets.

Wickramasinghe was also involved in an unfinished third-wicket stand of 362 runs along with Sadisha Rajapaksa who remained unbeaten on 152.

Wickramasinghe collected his runs from 225 balls inclusive of 18 fours and two sixes and he also became the highest individual scorer in the series while surpassing the previous best of 200 not out made by last year Royal Skipper Kavindu Madarasinghe at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy. In addition, the unbroken third wicket stand of 362 between Wickramasinghe and Rajapaksa also set a new record as they shattered the previous third wicket highest partnership of 304 set by Sumithra Warnakulasuriya (181 n.o) and Ajith Devasurendra (120 n.o) in 1981 at Reid Avenue.

Chief scores

Royal: 403/2 (Ashen Gamage 22, Sadisha Rajapaksa 152 n.o, Ahan Wickramasinghe 210 n.o) vs Trinity. (D.R)
