A former Royal College boxing star Mahinda Herath Bandara has been elected President of the Colombo District Volleyball Association (CDVA). All office-bearers were elected uncontested at their annual general meeting held at the Sports Ministry auditorium recently.
Bandara played a key role in promoting the national sport of volleyball when he served as Vice President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) for a period of ten years. He was instrumental in getting Dialog to sponsor the President’s Gold Cup Volleyball Championship since 2005.
During the 80s decade, Bandara excelled in sports such as boxing, football, cricket and athletics at Royal College, winning laurels in boxing and captaining the school in 1991.
Bandara served in top positions in government institutions including Managing Director of the National Youth Services Council, Director of Sri Lanka Telecom and Director of Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.
