SSC opening batsman Nipun Dhananjaya topped the list as the highest run-getter with 376 runs, having struck a century and three half-centuries averaging 75.2 from six matches in the Sri Lanka Cricket Major Club Under-23, 50-Over Tournament. Dhananjaya scored a cracking a century on his way to becoming the leading run-scorer in the tournament scoring 100 against Bloomfield, on the final day of the first round of the tournament. Malindu Maduranga the Mahanama College right-hand batsman cum CCC skipper placed second with 273 runs after scoring an unbeaten 73 off 45 balls inclusive of 7 sixes and 3 boundaries against Kandy Customs CC. He scored three fifties, averaging 54.60 from six matches.
Tamil Union player cum right-hander Ravindu Fernando came in third with 253 runs inclusive of one century and one fifty. In six matches, he averages 84.33.
Former Sri Lanka under 19 captain - Left-hander Kaminu Mendis is placed fourth with 249 runs while turning out for Chilaw Marians, scoring a superb century and one half-century. He averages a stunning 83.00 in just four games.
While Left-hander Sakuna Liyanage of Nugegoda SC came in fifth scoring 243 runs with two fine fifties averaging 60.75.
Meanwhile, Nugegoda SC right-arm fast-medium bowler Nipun Lakshan tops the list as the highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets averaging a superb 17.0 from six matches in the Sri Lanka Cricket Major Club Under-23, 50-Over Tournament. He has an economy rate of 6.07 per over.
Sebastinites SC right arm leg spinner Tharusha Fernando came in second with 14 wickets with a fantastic average of 11.93 from six matches. He has a superb economy rate of just 3.47 per over.
Amshi De Silva, the CCC right arm pacie, came in third with 14 wickets. He has a superb average of 11.57 in six matches. The right-arm fast bowler Lasindu Arosha placed fourth with 14 wickets while turning out for Kalutara Town Club, He averages a stunning 9.71, with an economy rate of 5.23 in just five games.
While Sachindu Kolambage the right-arm off-break bowler of Tamil Union CC came in fifth taking 12 wickets with an average of 14.08 and a fine economy rate of just 3.55.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced yesterday that the scheduled semi-finals of the Under 23 Inter-Club Tournament 2020/21 has been postponed until further notice due to the current COVID-19 situation prevailed in the country. After the completion of the first-round games, the semi-finals line up is between defending champions Colts CC VS Badureliya CC and SSC VS Lankan CC.
