Ballroom Dancers Federation registration cancelled

The Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa has issued an extraordinary gazette notification cancelling the registration of the Ballroom Dancers Federation of Sri Lanka, which is the National Federation for the sport of Ballroom Dancing with immediate effect.

Actually this decision was made by former Sports Minister Dullas Alahapperuma during his period. However such decisions are gazetted after a period of time, it is the present Minister of Sports whose name appears in the Gazette said a senior official of the Sport Ministry.

Sri Lanka Ballroom Dancing Federation was registered as the country’s 58th National sports body on 11th March 2016 under a special gazette notification. However so many objections were received for this Federation. Besides not conducting competitions, the association had not even held an Annual General Meeting or submitted accounts statements.

Even their so-called provincial or district affiliated bodies had not conducted any activities according to the investigation conducted on the orders of former Sports Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.

The investigators noted that the Association did not even have a legitimate or correct address. These issues were found after the investigation about this Federation and finally former Sports Minister Alahapperuma cancelled the registration of this Federation.

However this is an eye opener for some sports bodies which are not active.

Some of them used to do their activities to focus only on international tours and the financial benefits which they get from the Sports Ministry .
