Lt.Gen.Shavendra Silva

This has been stated by the Army Commander Lt General Shavendra Silva whenever he speaks to the public on Television.

Lt.Gen. Shavendra Silva is the first student of St.Thomas’ College,Matale to be appointed as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army. He represented the School in Cricket and Cadeting and as a cricketer played in all age groups Under 13, 15,17 and 19 as a wicket keeper batsman. He was the School Senior Prefect, leader of the Western Band, Sergeant of the Junior Cadet Platoon as well as the Senior Cadet Platoon.

Shavendra was born on 22nd of June,1964 and started his school career at

St. Joseph’s College, Anuradhapura from Grade one.to three and thereafter was Admitted to Vijaya College, Matale and studied upto Grade.Five. From Grade Six onwards he was admitted to St.Thomas’ College,Matale and continued his Studies up to Advanced level and after leaving School joined the Sri Lanka

Army as a Cadet Officer in the year 1984 and had his preliminary training at Diyatalawa Army training School.

Shavendra is the son of former Chairman of the Ceylon Transport Board. Creasy Silva and Sumana Bandu Silva, and the brother of former Air Vice Marshal Ajantha Silva and the present CEO of DFCC Bank, Laxman Silva and Neranjala de Silva.
