Mahasen the teenage soccer star

Fourteen-year-old Mahasen Bandara Samarakoon, a Grade 10 student of Dharmaraja College, Kandy is a talented soccer player who has won the Best Player’s Trophy on two occasions in 2019. He also became the Best player at the Under 16 Soccer Tournament organized by the SISU Soccer Club.

He scored 11 goals in the tournament organized by the Nawalanka Sports Club using both his feet effectively and being able to play in any position.

Mahasen’s soccer coaches are W.A.Priyantha and E.Wijewardena, both from the Municipal Playgrounds Department, Kandy.

Mahasen is a bright student who is always among the first 10 in his class and his favourite subject is Science.

He wants to continue playing soccer while doing his studies and his ambition is to represent the National soccer team. His favourite International soccer player is Lionel Messi of Argentina.

Mahasen is the only son of former National soccer player, the late Piyatissa Samarakoon.
