A Six member Sri Lankan Badminton team will take part at the Sudirman Cup Badminton Tournament which is scheduled to be held from May 19 to 26 in China.
Three men’s shuttlers Dinuka Karunaratna, Buwaneka Gunatilleka, Sachin Dias and three women’s players Thilini Hendahewa, Kavidi Sirimannage and Dilmi Dias are representing the Sri Lanka team.
The Sudirman Cup is a mixed team championship which takes place every two years. There are five matches in every round men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Sri Lanka have been drawn into Group 3B along with Switzerland, Solvakia, Lithuania in this tournament. Last time in the Sudirman Cup which was held in Gold Coast Australia Sri Lanka emerged group winners of Group 3B. If Sri Lanka come on top in their Group they will most probably have to play with Australia which is in Group 3A
