Fijian fly half Emosi Vunivoza’s magic enabled Police Sports Club to a stunning 34 points (5 tries, 3 conversions, 1 penalty) to 30 (4 tries, 2 conversions, 2 penalties) win over fighting Navy Sports Club team in their Dialog ‘A’ Division inter club league rugby tournament super round Plate championship match played at Police grounds in Police Park yesterday.
Police led 19 points to 18 at half time.
After being contained in the first half the Police rallied around with their speedy three quarters led by Fijian play maker cum fly half Emosi Vunivoza came up with a sterling display in the second half of the match to out play their fame counterparts.
The nippy Fijian national Vunivoza was a source of inspiration to his entire team-mates with his spectacular runs down the ground and capped a fine performance in the match by scoring two brilliant tries.
For the winning Police Sports Club team the five tries were scored by Fly half Emosi Vunivoza (two), centre Niroshan Silva (one), full back Sachith Silva (one) and co-centre Janik Chandimal (one), while the three conversions were slotted in by Sacith (two) and Chandimal (one) while the solitary penalty was fired across by Chandimal.
Navy Sports Club’s four tries were scored by second row forward Nirosh Perera (one), prop forward Stefan Greogary (one), scrum half Richie Darmapala (one) and number eight Radeesha Seneviratne (one) with wing three quarter Chathura Seneviratne slotted in the two conversions and the two penalties.
