Court of Appeal rejects nominations of Mohan de Silva, Ravin Wickremaratne

The three-member court of appeal headed by retired Supreme Court judge Nimal Dissanayake and comprising retired SC judge Devika Tennekoon and retired additional director-general of Sri Lanka Customs Dharmasena Kahandawa appointed by the Minister of Sports to look into the eligibility of those contesting the forthcoming Sri Lanka Cricket elections has rejected the nominations of Mohan de Silva and Ravin Wickremaratne to contest the upcoming Sri Lanka Cricket elections. Elections are scheduled to be held on February 21.

A media release from the Ministry of Sports states that De Silva and Wickremaratne are not suitable to contest the elections under the Sports Law act of 1973.

De Silva was contesting for the posts of president, vice president and secretary and Wickremaratne for the posts of vice president, treasurer and assistant secretary.

Objections filed against the nominations of Jayantha Dharmadasa (for post of president), Shammi Silva (for posts of president, vice president, secretary and treasurer), Bandula Dissanayake (for posts of secretary and assistant secretary) and Lalith Rambukwella (for post of assistant treasurer) has been over ruled.

All other nominations have been declared legal.

Sri Lanka Cricket Competent Authority Chulananda Perera states that the Sports Minister’s decision on this ruling is final.
