Lankan squad to ‘Special Olympics MENA’ 2018 seeks support

The Sri Lankan squad to ‘Special Olympics MENA’ 2018 in Abu Dhabi at the training programme in Dambulla

Serandib Special Olympics, an affiliated organization to International Special Olympic Committee through the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka conducted a workshop to Sri Lankan contingent that will take part in the ‘Special Olympics MENA’ 2018 which is to be worked off from March 14 to 23 in Abu Dhabi at the Rangiri Aqua Hotel in Dambulla recently.

Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities who provides year-round training and competitions to 5.7 million athletes and unified sports personal in 172 member countries.

Serandib Special Olympics conducts programmes to uplift the living standard of Sri Lankan people with intellectual disabilities. They provide training for public on how to handle matters with intellectually disabled persons and also conduct medical camps for special needy.

The Sri Lankan contingent to Special Olympics MENA’ 2018 will participate in several team events in Adu Dhabi and the training programme in Dambulla aimed at preparing them for the big event.

The dream of take part in Abu Dhabi event remains an uncertainty for Lankan team due to financial issues as they found difficult to obtain a sponsorship to cover their expenses.

Serandib Special Olympics seek help from generous sponsors to support the Lankan squad to ‘Special Olympics MENA’ 2018 in Abu Dhabi.
