St Anthony’s College Katugastota batsmen made merry on the opening day of their ‘Singer Cup’ Under 19 inter-school cricket match against Revatha Balapitiya played at Ratgama when they thumped an imposing 517 for 8 wickets declared in 70 overs yesterday.
Leading the run spree for the Antonians were Sunera Jayasinghe (133) and Mohammed Abzar (113) who thumped a century apiece, and Theeksha Gunasinghe and Deon Stouter with a half century apiece. Revatha replied with 55-1 at stumps.
At Mount Lavinia, Thomian Maneesha Rupasinghe hit a fluent 133 off 146 balls with 15 fours and 2 sixes to enable S Thomas’ declare their first innings at 230-6 against St Benedict’s who were 31-1 at stumps.
Other individual performances were recorded by Hashan Sandeepa (Maghanama Colombo) who took 7 wickets for 33 runs against Isipathana, Eranda Madusanka of Henry Olcott MV Kolonnawa – a match bag of 11 wickets for 135 runs against Vidyaloka Galle, and Nipun Lakshan (Thurstan) who took 7 wickets for 61 runs against Moratu Vidyalaya.
Of the matches concluded yesterday Sri Devananda College Ambalangoda beat S. de S. Jayasinghe Central College Dehiwala by an innings and 90 runs at Dehiwala. The rest of the matches were drawn.
