Walkers and Whittalls clinches TTSC Beach Tag Rugby title

Walkers and Whittalls led by Vasula Wimalaweera regained the Travel Trade Sports Club (TTSC) Beach Tag Rugby title with a comprehensive 30/5 win over Sri Lankan Airlines ‘A’ in the ‘Cup’ Championship final at Mt. Lavinia Hotel Paradise Beach recently.

The 04th edition of the tournament was once again sponsored by Walkers Tours, hosted by Mt. Lavinia Hotel and conducted by Agoal Rugby Academy.

Cinnamon Grand Colombo ‘A’ won the ‘Plate’ and Ozo Colombo Hotels won the ‘Bowl’. 16 teams entered the tournament, but only 14 took part, as Emirates and Aitken Spence Travels failed to turn up at the completion of the round robin stage.

The 02 top teams of the 04 groups, namely Classic Travel ‘A’ and Walkers/ Whittalls ‘B’ (from group ‘A’), Sri Lankan Airlines ‘A’ and Cinnamon Grand Colombo ‘B’ (from Group ‘B’), Cinnamon Grand Colombo ‘A’ and Classic Travel ‘B’ (from Group ‘C’) and Walkers/Whittalls ‘A’ and Mackinons Travels (from Group ‘D’) advanced to the Cup/Plate championships.

The 04 3rd placed teams of the 04 groups namely, Hemas LTAG, Ozo Colombo Hotels, Ceylon Roots and Sri Lankan Airlines ‘B’ played in the ‘Bowl’ Championship.

The awards were presented by Sasala Dissanayake, Asst Vice President John Keells Group and Committee members TTSC; Chinthaka Daluwatte (Director, Sales & Marketing, Mt. Lavinia Hotels Group) and Treasurer TTSC, Mani Sugathapala (TTSC Com.), Adrian Jansz (TTSC Com.), Ravi Wisidagama (TTSC Com.).

Results of the finals:

Bowl final: Ozo Colombo Hotels beat Hemas LTAG on extra time 10/5 (full time 5/5): Best Player: Chamika de Silva/Ozo Colombo Hotels

Plate final: Cinnamon Grand Colombo ‘A’ beat Classic Travels ‘A’ 10/5: Most Promising Player – Mekalanda Promoda / Cinnamon Grand Colombo ‘A’

Cup final: Walkers / Whittalls ‘A’ beat Sri Lankan Airlines ‘A’ 30/5, after leading 10/5 at the turn around. The try scorers for the winners were, Wasula Wimalaweera (1), Avishka Lee (2), Thanuja Maduranga (1) and Andre Power (1): Wasula Wimalaweera was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament.
