The AGM of the National Olympic Committee has been postponed for several months following a directive issued by the International Olympic Committee based on three main factors.
The three factors are the refusal of a proposal made by the Executive Committee which comprised a wider membership, granting of voting rights to six new sports clubs and appointment of members for the Independent Elections Committee.
The International Olympic Committee has said it totally rejected the proposal to wider the executive committee membership. It has said people elected through a vote would only represent the Executive Committee. It has said the six new sports clubs should be given membership immediately. If they had been given approval by international sports bodies.
It is mandatory for the National Olympic Committee to accept orders issued by the International Olympic Committee said its Secretary Maxwell de Silva. The National Olympic Committee AGM was last held in 2009.
