Jithmie and Anika clinch women’s doubles title

102 Sri Lanka Tennis Nationals:

Jithmie Jayawickrema and Anika Seneviratne clinched the women’s Open Doubles title beating strong contenders, Amritha Muttiah and Medhira Samarasinghe comfortably 6/1, 6/1 in the final as the 102 Sri Lanka Tennis Nationals continued at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts yesterday.

Jithmie and Anika edged out Anya Gunawardena and Janali Manamperi in a straight set semi final 6/2, 6/3 while Amritha and Medhira had the better of Oshini Herath and Savini Jayasuriya 6/0, 6/1 in the other semi final.

Meanwhile the women’s Open Singles final between Anika Seneviratne and Medhira Samarasinghe will be worked off today morning at court no.5. Both Anika and Medhira maintained a superb record in the tournament and Medhira qualified to singles final by beating top seed Thisuri Molligoda after a tough battle 5/7, 6/4, 6/3. Anika also fought a hard battle to clear her path to singles final defeating Savini Jayasuriya in semis 5/7, 6/2, 6/3.
