Former Sri Lankan skipper and all-rounder Sanath Jayasuriya and Professor Arjuna de Silva were among the special invitees who graced the occasion to witness the curtain-raiser fixture between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh played last Friday at the National Stadium in Male. Both of them congratulated the Sri Lankan footballers and offered a motivational speech to the National team at their official hotel yesterday on an invitation extended by Football Sri Lanka President Jaswar Umar.

During his speech, Jayasuriya pointed out a few areas which needed immediate attention, including losing the temperament while under a pressure situation in the game. Jayasuriya shared his experience of how to handle these tense situations, while emphasizing the task at hand to perform, and how it can be achieved with sheer determination. He further shared his experience with players on disciplinary and strategic behavior on the field.

Jaswar Umar thanked Sanath Jayasuriya - who has vast experience in the international arena - for sparing his time and gracing this occasion on short notice.

Meanwhile, reliable sources revealed that Jayasuriya held a special discussion with Maldivian cricketers on an invitation extended by the Maldives Cricket Board.
