Bangladesh look to avoid PNG upset in key game

Bangladesh will take on Papua New Guinea (PNG) in a crucial match of the ICC Twenty20 Cricket World Cup at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Muscat, Oman today.

The Mahmudullah-led Tigers, on Tuesday, made a strong comeback as they defeated Oman by 26 runs.

However, Bangladesh are not out of trouble just yet. Even if they win their next game, they won’t be assured of a berth in the Super 12.

Scotland and Oman are still in contention to qualify beyond the first round.

The three teams - Scotland, Oman, and Bangladesh - are separated by just a margin of 0.113 in terms of net run-rate and the three teams have an even chance of qualifying.

As far as Assad Vala’s PNG are concerned, they are all, but out of the competition. (Agencies)
