Sri Lanka paddlers show promise at Asian Tourney

The Sri Lanka Women's Team finished 12th while the Men's Team placed 18th in the team events of the Asian Table Tennis Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The Sri Lanka Women's Team defeated Bangladesh and Jordan 3-0 and lost to Kazakhstan 0-3. In the playoff match for the 11th and 12th places Sri Lanka went down to Indonesia 0-3.

Earlier, the Sri Lanka Men's Team beat Bangladesh 3-0 and lost to Thailand and Qatar. In the playoff match for the 17th and 18th places they lost to Indonesia 2-3.

At the previous Asian Tournament in 2019, The Sri Lanka Men’s Team placed 23rd and the Sri Lanka Women's Team finished 15th.

The results:

(Women’s): Ishara Madurangi lost to Siti Aminah 2-3, Bimandi Bandara lost to Dwi Sugiarto 1-3, Muthumali Priyadharshani lost to Novida Vidharanan 1-3.

(Men’s): Senura Silva beat Benjamin Mulia 3-2, Chameera Ginige lost to Nikola Niman 0-3, Milinda Lakshitha beat Fikri Faqih 3-2, Senura Silva lost to Nikola Niman 0-3, Chameera Ginige lost to Benjamin Mulia 1-3.
