
H. M Sisira Kumara, the President of Sri Lanka Karate Do Federation, has been elected as the new President of the South Asian Karate Federation (SAKF) for the year 2021-2025. The election was held recently through ZOOM technology for the first time. Three candidates - Sisira Kumara (Sri Lanka), Bharat Sharma (India) and Purendu Bikram (Nepal) had handed over their nominations for the post.
Purendu Bikram withdrew from the race before the election. Accordingly, the contest was between Sisira Kumara and Bharath Sharma. The total number of eligible votes was 06 out of which one vote was not cast.
Bharath Sharma received one vote and Sisira Kumara received four votes to seal the post and this is a great honour to Sri Lanka. Keerthi Kumara the Secretary of the National Karate Federation and International coordinator and National Karate Referees Commission Chariman R.J Alexendar also accompanied President Sisira Kumara for this Zoom meeting.
He has to look after the South Asian region with this new post and this is a good move for Sri Lanka Karate.
The most of the scheduled plans are halted to develop Sri Lanka Karate but new SAKF President has to take challenge to uplift this sport and the new post is a good advantage for him.
