Two pioneer cricket playing schools St. Benedict's College and Wesley College will clash in their inaugural Inter-School Big Match cricket encounter at the end of this month.

This two-day match will be worked off on April 23 and 24 at Kotahena while the limited over fixture will be played on May 8 at the P. Sara Oval.

The two-day game will be played for the Rev. James Cartman Cup named in honour of former Wesley Principal while the limited over match will be played for the Rev. Bro. Luke Gregory Shield, named in honour of former Director of St. Benedict’s. As per the agreement by the joint committees, St. Benedict’s will host this year’s two-day fixture while leaving out for their rivals Wesley to take their turn next year while agreeing to host the limited over fixture at a neutral venue.

As per the Bens, the La Sallian brothers have made this novel suggestion to play a cricketing encounter of this nature, with the fullest blessings while sharing their rich cultures.

They have made some changes to the playing formats unlike the other big matches infusing a format. This included the team taking the first lease of the wicket will play a maximum of 65 overs.

Each team will bowl the same number of overs irrespective of interruptions or unless they are all out.

Any team has the option of declaring their inning within the 65 overs quota and the team batting second could be enforced to follow on at the end of 65 overs if they are 100 behind. In compliance with the health guidelines, both matches will be played closed doors but have decided to televise both matches live on television.

They have also made arrangements to live stream the matches through Quadrangle’s YouTube channel, a popular schools focused digital platform.
