Pubudu outstanding basketball and netball player

Pubudu Navoda Marasinghe is an old girl of Mahamaya Girls School, Kandy who is an outstanding netball player as well as a Basketball player. She was involved in Athletics too and did well in High Jump and Javelin Throw.

She was a netball player of the School team from 2009 to 2019 in Under 13 to under 19 age groups. She took part at the Zonal and Provincial Level Meets as well as All island and International level tournaments. She represented Sri lanka at the “Pesta-bola” International Netball tournament held in Malaysia in the year 2013 and from 2017 to 2019 she was a member of the Sri Lanka Junior Netball Pool and in 2016 won the Bronze Medal in the All Island games by representing the Central province. Again in 2017 won the first place in the All Island Games representing the Kandy team and in the year 2015 to 2017 won the Championship in the National Youth Sports Festival. In 2018 emerged Champions, Runners-up and 2nd Runners-up in the Netball meet conducted by the Dept. of Education.

Their ‘A’ Division team emerged champions and Runners-up in the Zonal Meet from 2010 to 2017 in the Inter School championship at the Milo Netball Tournament. Ruvinya Malporu was the Captain of the Netball team and Pubudu Novoda was selected as the Under 17 Best player in the Netball match, Mahamaya Girls School had with Stamford High School,England and she was awarded Colours at the School award ceremony. Pubudu excelled in basketball in the year 2016 and 2017 and became a member of the Kandy District Basketball team as a forward. In 2017 the School Basketball team became Runners-up in the Kandy District team and became Champions at the Basketball tourney held by the Gangawata Korale Division of Kandy and in 2018 she was awarded a Merit Certificate for Basketball and she became a member of the YMCA, Kandy to continue playing basketball.

In athletics too she received many certificates in High Jump and Javelin Throw at School level and Provincial level competitions. She was the Games Vice Captain in the Maya House of the school. At present she is employed at Cargills Bank and her intention is to continue her sports career.
