Devapathiraja upset Isipathana in U-19 quarter-finals

Skipper Sudeera Weerarathne (31) and Jeewaka Shasheen (56) added 94 runs for the unfinished fifth wicket as Devapathiraja College, Rathgama scored an upset six-wicket victory over Isipathana College in their Under-19 Division One Tier ‘B’ quarter-final cricket fixture played at Wijerama Mawatha yesterday.

Devapathiraja bowled out Isipathana for 151 runs in 39.1 overs and then reached their target comfortably for the loss of only four wickets in 43.2 overs.

Weerarathne made 31 in 52 balls while Shasheen scored a fine 56 in 85 balls inclusive of three fours and a six.

Meanwhile, Skipper Navod Paranavithna’s fine all-round performance (62 and 2/23) and a superb batting display by Danuja Induwara (73) and Subanu Rajapaksa (62) helped Mahinda College to beat St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa by 131 runs in their Division One Tier ‘B’ quarter-final game played at St. Sebastian’s College grounds, Moratuwa yesterday.

Mahinda: 252/8 in 43 overs (Navod Paranavithana 62, Subanu Rajapaksa 62, Dhanuja Induwara 73, Kaushan Wijeratne 2/28)

St. Joseph Vaz: 121 in 38.2 overs (Kushan Madusha 2/52, Navod Paranavithana 2/23, Subanu Rajapaksa 2/11).

The semi-final line-up:

(Division One Tier ‘A’): April 28: Royal vs Mahanama at Moratuwa, St. Joseph’s vs Trinity at Maggona.

(Division One Tier ‘B’): April 25: Dharmasoka vs Devapathiraja at BRC Grounds, Mahinda vs Ananda at Thurstan Grounds.
