
Sri Lanka Universities Beach Volleyball Captain and Cricketer Yasiru Udara Dhanapala Wijesinghe brought honour and glory to his Alma Mater, Vijayaba Natoonal School Hungama, and Sabaragamuwa University and his motherland.
Yasiru was admitted to the Grade One of Vijayaba National School Hungama in 2008 and the then Principal was Mr. Ratnayake and his first class teacher was Mrs. Krista from Grade One to Five he did not take part in sports. But his parents Ariyathillake Danapala Wijesinghe and Chamila Sudarshani Saram insisted him to take up a sport and Yasiru selected volleyball in 2007.

His first tournament was Mini DSI and they came up to Provincial and lost in the quarter finals. He gave up Volleyball and played for the school under 13 and 15 cricket teams in 2008 and 2009 and he is a right hand middle order batsman and medium pace bowler and a safe fielder
He gave up cricket in 2010 and commenced playing volleyball in 2011 and in 2012 his school won the divisional, Zonal, District and Provincial tournamentsand in the DSIU Tournament they were the second runner up and in the All Island Inter Schools Tournament his school lost in the Quarter Finals and after winning the District and Provincial Tournaments his team was the runner up. In 2013 after winning the Zonal and Provincial tournaments they clinched the All Island Schools Championship and in 2014 he captained the under 19 team and they were the runners up in the DSI and All Island Schools Tournament. In 2013 he was awarded Milo School Colours for Volleyball.
Then in 2016 Mr. Rathnaweera formed the Vijayaba Sports Club and in the Dialog Tournament they came up to semi finals and in 2017 they were the All Island Dialog Runners Up and he captained the team. In the following year he took part in the World Universities Beach Volleyball Tournament in Munich, Germany leading the team and out of 32 countries Sri Lanka Universities Team came up to 30th place and it was a fine exposure for Isuru. He was awarded University Volleyball Colours in 2017 and re awarded in 2018 and 2019.
Last year he was in the pool for the 2020 Beach Volleyball Tournament in Spain and due to Covid 19 it was postponed.
