Asela Muthumala - Central Province Rugby Referees President

The Central Province Rugby Referees Association had their AGM last Sunday at the Old Vidyartha Sports Club at Nittawela. Asela Muthumala was elected as the President for 2021/22, he is sure to do a good job like the past presidents. Sylvestrian Aruna Krishantha Rankothge, who was president, did a good job and this time he did not come forward. . Asela Muthamala a top man in the rugby filed is attached to the Kandy Police and is a product of Kingswood College and later played for Police as a hooker. A keen follower of rugby refereeing sure to give his best with the support of the rest. The present committee is formed with referees like. Y.M.S. Ratnayake, Sarath Madugalle as Vice Presidents,Raveen Alexander Secretary, and Asela Niyadagala Treasurer.

Old Rajans Rugby Committee to support

Dharmaraja College Old Boys Rugby wing are all out to give their best for the game, like in the past. Now the wing is headed by Chaminda Yapa, he played for the school side from 1994 to 1996 and won colours for rugby in 1996 and later played for Old Trinitians SC in1996 and 1997. Later for Kandy SC. The Vice president of the wing is Sameera Pinnaduwa, Secretary Malinga Godigamuwa , Treasurer - Sajeewa Hulangamuwa, Team Manager - Tharindu Rathnayake, Management Heads - K.R Herath, Sajeewa Abeyratne Fund racing , event organizing and coordinating ) . Technical committee - Chaminda Yapa, Indika Udayakumara, Dayan Munidasa , Sudheera De Silva, Tharindu Rathnayake.

KDCA Cricket final

The final of the Kandy District Cricket Association one day cricket tournament will be played after the Sinhala and Tamil New year. This well organized tournament gave a boost to local talent by giving them an excellent opportunity to play good cricket,which saw thirty teams in action

Old Trinitians win Bradby Golf

In the fifth Bradby Golf tournament between Old Trinitians and Old Royalists Old Trinitians beat Old Royalists to pocket the G.,C. Wickremasinghe challenge trophy. Old Trinitians were able to win six while Old Royalist three with one ending in a tie. Now Old Trinitians head the series with 3- to 2 wins. This time the event took place at the Victoria Golf Resort at Digana. The old Trinitians regained the trophy after a lapse of two years; the winners pocketed six team events while Old Royalists won three with one game ending in a tie.

Lasintha de Costa to continue as Rajans coach

Former Isipathana, CR & FC and Sri La nka ruggerite Lasintha de Costa will continue his job as rugby coach of Dharmaraja College and Buddhika Abeysinghe is the forwards coach. Rajans who are at practices are blessed with some top players and are sure to give their best when the tournament begins

Inter house rugby

The Trinity College inter-house ten-a-side rugby tournament will take place today at Pallekelle rugby grounds, from 10 a.m.onwards. It is a student’s-friendship inter-house senior rugby tournament which will produce a good days run and pass rugby.

Kandy schools rugby training starts

All Kandy rugby playing schools have started training for the intending season.Kingswood College, Vidyartha College, Trinity College, St. Anthony’s College,Dharmaraja College, Sri Sumangala College, St. Sylvester’s College, and Sri Rahula College are blessed with good talented coaches who are sure to guide them well. And all schools are blessed with talented players. Only problem the schools have is, lack of proper grounds for practices and matches.

KDHA to honour players

The Kandy District Hockey Association headed by R. Maheswaran has decided to honour the past players and officials. The Kandy’s Men’s and Women’s Hockey players will be recognized for their efforts. The much-awaited event is set to be held in Kandy in the coming month. Awards will be given in recognition of excellence in performance for the overall contribution to the game of hockey.

Trinity and St. Anthony’s in quarters

Trinity College and St. Anthony’s College are through to quarter-finals in the schools one day tournament. All cricket playing schools in Kandy, did well in their matches. Sri Rahula College in their five games won two, lost two , no decision one , Sri Sumangala College played five won three and lost two, Vidyartha College played four games won two, lost two and one more to be played, , St. Sylvester’s College out of their five games won two and lost three, Trinity College played five games have won four and lost one with 18points runners-up and qualify to final round from Group X. St. .Anthony’s College out of their five games won three, lost one and one no decision , have qualified to the quarter-final round of Tier A tournament. Dharmaraja College out of their five games won one, lost three and one no decision Kingswood College won two lost three.
