SSC and Army CC set up a showdown in the SLC T20 Cricket Tournament when they won their respective semi-finals at the NCC Grounds in Maitland Place yesterday.
SSC produced a fine all-round performance to beat CCC by 32 runs while Army CC recorded even a more convincing nine-wicket victory over the giant killers Kurunegala YCC.
SSC of course, managed to score only 159 for four from their 20 overs with opener Avishka Fernando stroking a fluent half century.
However, the SSC bowlers defended that score and bowled out their opponents for 127 runs in the last over with Prabath Jayasuriya (3/16), Jeffrey Vandersay (2/17), Himesh Ramanayake (2/23) and Tharindu Ratnayake (2/29) sharing the wickets.
Meanwhile, Kurunegala YCC’s giant killing performances came to an end when they were beaten by Army CC in the second semi-final encounter. Kurunegala YCC were restricted to 114 for six and Army CC overtook that score easily with Ashan Randika and Seekkuge Prasanna stroking unbeaten half centuries.
