Sri Lanka hope to host two regional rugby tourneys

The Rugby lovers in the country will finally have some good news, as Asian Rugby (AR) has given indications of conducting the Asian Rugby Sevens and the Asian Club Rugby Sevens Tournament in Sri Lanka end of this year.

During his recent visit to Dubai, Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa had met AR officials and extended an invitation to conduct two separate tournaments, commencing with the Asian Rugby Championships.

He had also made another request to inaugurate an Asian Club Championship Tournament with the participation of the top clubs in the region which are under their purview. It is more or less like the Carlton Rugby Sevens. He has assured AR officials of his fullest cooperation and support for both these events.

AR has welcomed the Minister’s request and are in the process of conducting a feasibility study on the request. (AN)
