Anchor and Fonterra Brands Lanka yesterday, joined hands with the Ministry of Sports to nourish high-performance athletes who aspire to represent Sri Lanka on a global stage.

The partnership enriches a long term, progressive approach to developing high-performance athletes, initiated by the Ministry of Sports in conjunction with the National Sports Council.

For the first time in the history, 59 National ‘Tier 1’ athletes from all walks of life have been contracted on a professional basis and will be developed to succeed in international sporting games including the Olympics, Paralympic Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

Anchor will enable the Ministry of Sports to provide each of these athletes with nutrition packs throughout their development journey to support their holistic wellbeing and performance.

“It is important that we encourage a varied discipline of sports within the country and promote our diverse range of talented athletes,” Minister of Sports Namal Rajapaksa said during a media briefing in Colombo.

“This programme ensures that multiple sports and geographies of the country are reached and athletes with great potential are strengthened in each field.”

“I am thankful to Anchor and Fonterra Brands Lanka for joining hands with us today to ensure that each athlete in our programme receives the best nutrition, helping them excel in international sporting games,” he added.

Managing Director of Fonterra Brands Lanka and Indian Sub-Continent, Vidya Sivaraja stated: “We are grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of this progressive, historic initiative commenced by Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Youth and Sports of Sri Lanka, to champion the development of sports in Sri Lanka as a national imperative.”

“We humbly look forward to working alongside the Ministry of Sports to uplift our nation’s talented athletes and enable access to nutrition, a vital part of their professional development journey,” she added.
