Shivarajan, Krishanthini win NSF marathon

M. Shivarajan and W. E. L. Krishanthini both from the Central Province won the Men’s and Women’s title respectively at the 46th National Sports Festival (NSF) marathon event worked off at Kataragama yesterday.

There were 50 runners in the Men’s marathon and 22 in the Women’s race.

Shivarajan finished with two hours and 29.29s to win first place, while Central Province athlete Krishanthini finished the 42km race with a time of two hours and 55.30s.

Sports Ministry Director General Amal Edirisuriya, Nestle Corporate Affairs Vice-President Bandula Egodage and Monaragala District Secretary Gunadasa Samarasinghe distributed the awards.

Men’s marathon: 1. M. Shivarajan (Central) 2.29.29s, 2. G. K. K. S. T. Gunasekara (Western) 2.32.14s, 3. W. M. S. Kumara (North Western) 2.33.45s.

Women’s marathon: 1. W. E. L. Krishanthini (Central) 2.55.30s, 2. H. M. W. G. W. M. Herath (Central) 2.57.15s, 3. L. S. D. Liyanage (Sabaragamuwa) 3.00.19s.
