Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa yesterday said that a full National Cricket Selection Committee will be appointed in due course in the proper manner on a long term basis.
The Minister made these observations during a media briefing held at the Sports Ministry Auditorium in Colombo.
“We are not too late to appoint the Cricket Selection Committee. The Chairman of the Selection Committee has already resigned but the other two members are already performing their task well.”
“We have to appoint the National Cricket Selection Committee in the correct way and with a long term plan in mind, and not up to six months.”
“We have seen in the past where we have gone wrong and been unsuccessful after having taken some quick decisions.
So, we are looking at naming a good selection committee as they will be performing a responsible job.” “We have a short term, mid-term and long term plan for sports development in the country and the National Sport Council is always focusing on this to achieve the highest standard on the field,” the Minister added. The Sports Minister further said that the existing Sports Law, which was established in 1973, has to be amended to develop sports in this country.
